- Don’t carry your Social Security card in your wallet. Give it out only if necessary.
- Don’t give out personal information over the phone, through the mail, or on the internet unless you know you are speaking to a trusted source.
- Keep your personal information in a secure place.
- Don’t fall prey to scams! People who talk about scams and have a general awareness of them, are less likely to fall prey to them.

- Use strong online passwords. Don’t share your passwords with others or use obvious passwords such as your birthday or the last four digits of your social security number.
- Click with caution. Never click on links sent in unsolicited emails. Never open or download links from unverified sources.
- Keep your computer updated and install and maintain anti-virus software.
